About Hobbes

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Lemon with White
  • Housetrained: Yes
  • Obedience Training Needed: Has Basic Training
  • Reaction to New People: Friendly

Hobbes was from a breeder who owned both parents -Cha cha doodles, he is an F2 i.e. both parents a golden doodle. He was born June 1, 3 years ago, and we received him at about ten weeks. As a puppy, he was an active dog, loving people, and attention where we had to work with him to stop jumping up on people. I took him to pet training at Pet Smart before he was one year old. He was also “trained” by my two daughters older Golden Doodles, from whom he learned and with whom he played well. He is best in an adult home with no children.
I was retired over these past 3 years, which allowed me to spend much time with him. He loved hiking on the Appalachian trail which we did a few times a week when we lived in NY. He loves the beach/Ocean and went almost daily in the offseason and to the dog beach a couple times a week in season. He is an excellent swimmer with no fear of the ocean, even in rough waves. If I go in the water, he has to follow me and swims with me.
Hobbes loves to sit with us, frequently on the back of the couch wrapped around my neck and shoulders. At night, he usually hops in bed with me, but jumps to and sleeps on the floor when Terry joins me. In the morning, when he sees me stirring to get up, he jumps in bed and starts licking me.
We moved permanently to Bradley Beach in August. Hobbes likes to sit on the porch and will bark at dogs going by. I usually assure the owner and ask if they can meet. The answer is usually yes. There has never been a spat or negative reaction. Hobbes does bark at squirrels and feral cats in the area.
Hobbes is a great car traveler. Terry and I make very frequent trips to our kids/grandkids - 4 hours to Albany NY and 6 hours to Boston MA. He curls up in the back or lies on the center console.
Eating wise, he tends to overlook his food in the morning (except when with “cousin” golden doodles when he will eat or lose the food to the other dog.)  I will remove the food after an hour or so, and put it back in the PM. He is not food possessive, and there were occasions I removed food or treats without a reaction. He is ball possessive with other dogs.
He is a loving dog and wonderful companion but does have a sensitivity to hands coming over his head.  Please apply to adopt Hobbes.  he is a courtesy post and not a Rescue Ridge dog.  We are trying to help his owner find a new, forever home for him.  Please apply to adopt Hobbes at rescueridge.com and your application will be sent to his owner.  We have no further information on this dog.  If you are interested in adopting Hobbes, please apply and his owner will be in contact.
