Shy is a 1.5 yr old cattle dog and Staffordshire Terrier mix. She is a newly diagnosed epileptic and is currently on Phenobarb twice a day to control seizures. The medicine is doing great although it will be life long with an occasional seizure that will pass on its own. Shy can only go to a home with a family who understands her situation and is willing to maintain her, the medication and knows she will need yearly bloodwork to check the Phenobarb level.
Shy can be a very playful dog, the rougher you play with her, she plays right back but settles immediately when told to do so. Shy has a fear of plastic bags and barks at them when they are rattled. I do not know why, possibly from her old home. When approached by a stranger she is sweet but a little head shy if they move their hand to fast. If that individual kneels down, she is just fine.
Shy is a loving dog that will sit in your lap, she has no food aggression, nor is she protective of toys. When playing with them, however, she should be supervised because she will chew them. This is the same with blankets and dog beds. Shy is housebroken but needs to be walked every 4 hours because of the phenobarb.
Shy needs to be in a family that understands her condition, is willing to spend the money for her doctor visits and blood tests. No young children. She is good with other dogs, but ideally she should be an only dog. No cats. Shy needs love, in return, she will give unconditional loyalty and appreciation. If at any time you feel that she is not perfect for your home and family, she should be given back. Vet references are needed.
On '11-03-09, Shy was adopted.
