About Phil

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 2090
Meet Phil. Phil is a 2 year old Pit bull/chocolate lab/ shar pei mix who’s big personality has made him a favorite among the volunteers at RR, earning him nicknames such as “Gruffy”, “McGruff the Magic Dragon”, and “Huggy Bear”. As much as we love him here, though, we cannot believe this guy hasn’t found a home yet! Phil used to live with a family of his own, but they could not afford to take care of him anymore. Perhaps your family will be lucky enough take him in! He would be a great family dog, as he is very playful and fun, but also very gentle with children. He has never met someone he doesn’t like. When someone comes up to is cage, his tail wags so hard that his whole rear end wags with it, and he tries to lick your fingers through the fence. He’s a total “mush”, and he’d love to meet you. For Fun: Phil loves to play and run around. His favorite game is tug of war; as soon as someone approaches him, he runs for his toys and brings them over, daring you to play. He also loves a good walk and chewing on his rawhides and toys. He also loves to give kisses and cuddle. Behavior: Phil is great with all kinds of people. He is a big goofball with a lot of energy, but he is very gentle with small children, and used to live with three kids. He is generally friendly with other dogs, but sometimes plays a little rough with them. It would be best if he did not live with cats. Training: In spite of his goofball personality, Phil is actually quite intelligent and trainable. He is housebroken and knows several tricks, such as “sit“, “stay“, “high five”, and was even taught to hop on top of his dog igloo on command (check out the video). He is in the process of learning several other tricks. He is very observant and eager to please, and picks up quickly on routines. He also walks very nicely on his leash. He is great in the car, and if he is in there for more than a few minutes, he will try to get a quick snooze in.
